Studio Owner to release anti demolition single
Recording studio owner Nick Allen from NAM Studios, based in the heart of Wiltshire, is to release single, ‘Don’t Bring It Down’ to highlight the issues surrounding the imminent demolition of his new studio, following a recent planning decision.
The track was composed by a specially formed band, ‘Demolition Artists’, and has been written by Nick Allen and Bath based musician Steve Robinson to raise awareness of the fate of the new studio, which is situated on land that Nick owns near Holt in Wiltshire, adjacent to the well-established NAM studios. For over thirty years NAM has been part of the music scene.. Artists such as Van Morrison, KT Tunstall and more recently, chart topping ‘Royal Blood’ have recorded at NAM, as well as providing a much needed facility for local artists..
Alongside musicians; Steve Robinson, Murph Murphy, Rob Brian, Flash, Paul Hartshorn, Jessica Vincent and George Allen, Nick employed the services of top engineer Joe Jones to record and mix the track at NAM., ‘Don’t Bring It Down’ details the impact demolishing the barn will have on musicians who have been so eager to use it , as well as offering a supporting hand to other studio and venue owners who may find themselves in similar circumstances.
Nick explains that he had applied and been granted planning permission before he started to construct the studio on the site of an old, dilapidated hay barn that was already there. The planners came to the decision that he had not complied with planning law. “Unfortunately, despite the barn being almost complete, the local planners decided that I had not complied with planning laws. I followed the appeals procedure but have been told that I have to demolish the studio,”. Following a strenuous appeals process and an online petition to keep the building, which attracted thousands of signatures and wide support across the local community, Wiltshire County Council are standing by their decision that the barn should be pulled down.
As well as being a valuable resource for both up and coming and established artists, the studio was also designed to be fully accessible to disabled people, offering state of the art facilities that would be available for all to use. Nick says that although he is aware that he may lose his legal battle to keep his studio standing, the money raised from the release of the track by Demolition Artists will be used to start a fund to help other musicians keep venues and studios open, that are in danger of closing down.
The track will be released on ‘Band Camp
demolitionartists1.bandcamp.com on the 12th July 2015 with listeners encouraged to purchase the track or donate what they can afford towards the cause. Those who wish to, can download it for free, and will be asked to share the track and its story on social media to help support Nick keep his Studio. www.namrecording.com
